In thinking about the Christian's dual citizenship, first in the Kingdom of God and then as a resident of a specific nation state, there is a sense that one should have transit in both realms. There is the spiritual life of worship and prayer, reading scripture and experiencing devotional materials (artwork, music, poetry, literature, etc.) on the one hand... and then on the other, a life of love lived out through work and service in the community - as one is called for action by God through vocation. Martin Luther theorized about "two kingdoms" that were separate but yet joined by the fact of this dual citizenship of the people of faith.
This painting, titled "Transit", is for me a visual reflection of some of that thought. I hope you can see it, too.
