Chicago had been my home for over 40 years. Although this is not one of my shaped map paintings, it suggested the title to me more as a parting thought - as I moved to Saint Paul, Minnesota. Chicago is mapped out on a consistent system of street grids (The Burnham Plan) and grids have played a major part in most of my abstract paintings. Chicago has parks scattered throughout, and Chicago has rivers which mean that bridges are built on every major street. Maybe it's not too literal a representation of the city I have called home, but it felt like it might fit with Sinatra singing: "Chi-CAAH-goh, Chi-CAAH-goh"...
