Landscape / from life
This small study, also from Meadow Park, shows a intimate scene viewed through an opening in the trees and foreground brush. The painting depicts a very peaceful and contemplative spot - actually, I think, more so in the painting than was evident on-site. But that's why one does a painting from life - rather than rely solely on a camera for capture. As wonderful as nature photography can be, the slow buildup of the painted image relies heavily on the artist's felt impression and the skill to bring it out in the painted composition, sharing perhaps a new and different idea with the viewer.
