Although not a perfect representation of a Montana state map - it's backwards after all - it is yet another in a series of occasional painting shapes based on state map forms. While driving through Montana on our way to Calgary in Alberta, I noticed that we had been travelling at roughly 75 mph and had not passed or met another car or gone by any town or even a farmhouse for over an hour! It was a realization of how large some places can be and how people live much more compacted in the Midwest. Even what we would call the rural parts of the Midwest are dotted with small communities at very regular intervals.
