Star
Star
acrylic on panel
24"h x 26"w x 2"d

A colorful array of layers and shapes that burst from within the jagged and straight edges of this panel. Here is a meditation on communication and perhaps history and heritage. I have had a long interest in calligraphic lettering and the graphic weight that it lends to its placement in an artwork. I use painted marks that resemble writing, but have no intelligible content in order to borrow the graphic quality of the form, but avoid the weight that a recognizable letter or word would introduce to the composition. However, there is a recognizable symbol in mid-ground layer. David's Star, borrowed here and burrowed into the painting as a symbol that is also deeply rooted in our world and culture.
