Abstract Shapes
The surface of a painting is a barrier to be crossed by the viewer of the artwork. There is a lot of attention paid to barriers, these days. Erecting barbed wire fences have traditionally been useful on landscapes to keep separate what is mine and what is yours. We also use it to effectively keep out and to exclude. That is what was on my mind as I completed this painting, with the green, verdant and inviting "other side" of the barbed wire fence in the space beyond the picture surface. You can see it, but you can't come in. If there's a lesson here, let those with eyes to see understand.
